Your mouse can only be as good as the surface under it. Size is the first decision, and the easiest one to get wrong: buy too small and you’ll keep running off the edge mid-fight.
This guide explains the common sizes in millimetres, shows how to work out the size you need from your in-game sensitivity, and lists pads available on Amazon.in at each size.
Common mousepad sizes
There’s no universal standard, but SteelSeries’ long-running QcK line is a useful reference that many brands follow loosely:
| Size name | Typical dimensions | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 250 × 210 mm | Laptop bags, travel, very high sensitivity |
| Medium | 320 × 270 mm | Wrist aimers, office use, tight desks |
| Large | 450 × 400 mm | Most gamers, low-sens FPS |
| XXL / Extended | 900 × 400 mm | Keyboard + mouse on one mat |
| Desk mat | 900 × 400 mm and bigger | Whole-desk coverage, clean look |
Other brands label sizes differently. A “large” from one brand can be close to another’s medium, so always check the millimetres.
How to pick the right size
1. Start from your sensitivity
Low sensitivity means big arm movements, which need a big pad. Gamers measure this as cm/360: how far you move the mouse to turn a full circle in game.
cm/360 = (360 × 2.54) ÷ (DPI × in-game sensitivity × game yaw)
Game yaw is 0.07 for Valorant and 0.022 for CS2. Two examples:
- Valorant, 800 DPI at 0.4 sensitivity ≈ 41 cm per 360°
- CS2, 800 DPI at 1.5 sensitivity ≈ 35 cm per 360°
If your cm/360 is 30 cm or more, a 450 × 400 mm large pad (or bigger) gives room for a full turn plus some margin. At very high sensitivities (under about 20 cm/360), a medium pad is usually enough. These are rules of thumb, not hard limits.
Quick check without maths: at your normal sensitivity, do a full 180° turn in game with a smooth arm movement and note how far the mouse travels. Your pad should be comfortably wider than that distance.
2. Measure your desk
Measure your desk width before buying anything extended. A 900 mm mat fills almost all of a 90 cm desk, which looks clean but leaves no room for anything else. On a narrow desk, a large 450 × 400 mm pad for the mouse plus the bare desk for the keyboard is often the better fit.
3. Thickness
- 2–3 mm: firmer, more precise, good for hard desks
- 4–6 mm: more cushion, kinder to your wrist, and hides uneven or textured desk surfaces
4. Surface: speed vs control
Control pads (most basic cloth) slow the mouse slightly, which helps precise aim. Speed pads glide faster for tracking-heavy games. Budget cloth pads usually lean towards control.
Humidity tip: cloth pads can feel slower or slightly sticky when the air is humid or your arm is sweaty, so glide can change between seasons. Keeping the pad clean helps. Stitched edges are worth having too, because they stop the cloth from fraying over time.

Price notes: the SteelSeries QcK pads were selling well above the ₹2,000–2,300 they have often been listed at in Indian roundups, which makes the Corsair MM200 PRO the better-value 450 × 400 mm pick on the day we checked. The Redgear MP44 link goes to the control-surface version; a speed-surface version was listed at about ₹310.
Desk mats (900 × 400 mm): the Kreo Terra XXL, a popular budget desk mat, was unavailable on Amazon.in and sold out on Kreo’s own store when we checked, so we haven’t listed a single desk-mat pick. Browse 900 × 400 mm desk mats on Amazon.in and look for stitched edges, a rubber base and the exact millimetre size in the listing.
How we picked
- Size first. We grouped pads by the size bands above and checked each listing’s exact millimetre dimensions against the manufacturer’s spec, since “large” means different things to different brands.
- Live Amazon.in price. Every price was checked on Amazon.in on 25 October 2026. Pads that weren’t in stock didn’t make the table.
- Practical features. We favoured stitched edges, rubber bases and clearly stated thickness, and noted spill-resistant surfaces.
- No hands-on claims. We have not lab-tested these pads; this is a research-based shortlist built from manufacturer specs and listings.

Our quick advice:
- Tight budget, any game: Redgear MP44. It gives you a near-large surface for the price of a meal.
- Low-sens FPS player: any 450 × 400 mm pad. Pick the thickness you like; the Corsair MM200 PRO was the best value on the day we checked.
- Want one mat under everything: a 900 × 400 mm desk mat, if your desk is at least 90 cm wide.

FAQ
Does a bigger mousepad improve aim?
Not by itself. It just stops the edge of the pad from limiting your arm movement, which matters most at low sensitivity.
What size mousepad do I need for Valorant or CS2?
Work out your cm/360 (formula in this article). If it is 30 cm or more, get a large pad of about 450 × 400 mm or bigger. Under about 20 cm/360, a medium pad is usually enough.
How do I clean a cloth mousepad?
Most cloth pads can be hand-washed in lukewarm water with mild soap and dried flat in the shade. Check the maker's instructions first, and let it dry completely before use.
Hard pad or cloth?
Cloth is the safer first buy: quieter, cheaper and more forgiving. Hard pads are faster but noisier and wear mouse feet faster.
Is a thicker mousepad better?
Not always. 2–3 mm pads feel firmer and more precise; 4–6 mm pads are more comfortable and hide uneven desk surfaces. Choose by comfort and desk, not by a 'better' number.
